I’m continuing along in my “Classic Novel” series of paintings. This is the third, and my favorite. The reference was inspired by a 1950s French paperback version. The piece is just about done, but I will need to add a few more layers of yellow to the title.
If you have not read this classic novel by Daphne Du Maurier, then perhaps you’ve seen the movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940. I honestly love this movie to death, it being in my top ten. In fact, I was lucky to see it on the big screen around 2005 or so. It starred the beautiful actress, Joan Fontaine, and Laurence Olivier.
This piece has also inspired me to do a ocean scene with the sun setting midst a cloudy backdrop. We shall see.

Note: This image was not created by me, but inspired from a French paperback version of the novel released around 1951. Due to copyright laws, this painting is not for sale, and done in reference by me for my own collection.
I love both the novel and the movie, so it is very fun to see your painting.
Thanks, Laurie.
