I love metal frames and the look with art. However, if you frame yourself, it’s hard to find good metal frames. Most places will only carry wood/fake composite wood stuff, which can be a real pain to work with. Name stores like Michaels offers cheap frames, but you get what you pay for— fake wood, scratched glass, etc.

So I began looking, but I could only find quality metal frames online. No dice. I really didn’t want to order, pay shipping, and wait. Plus, you never know what you’ll get online when it comes to frames. Sometimes they look great in real life, or they simply suck.
On a whim, after grabbing an espresso from Starbucks, I swung by a frame shop in town (Affordable Framing, see link below). I was greeted by the manager who explained about the metal frames and how to put them together. I told him I was an artist, and he decided to give me a great discount to do business with him (thanks Tim!).

So here is my first piece framed in custom metal. I love the look, and have decided to go from wood frames to metal ones. It does cost a bit more money, but the overall look and finish is worth it. You will not be disappointed.
